Sharjah Ruler unveils AED 750 million projects to link direct roads to Dubai

WAM

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has announced a series of projects worth AED750 million that will link internal and main roads between Sharjah and Dubai.

The projects include the addition of a new underground tunnel with a dual carriageway under the Al Taawun roundabout that will extend to Dubai up to Al Nahda Bridge.

The tunnel will also reduce pressure on the roundabout, allowing for direct connections to major roads, inlcluding Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road.

The construction of the tunnel required the recent temporary removal of the Al Taawun Roundabout Monument, which His Highness explained was necessary to carry out the project in a telephone interview with the Direct Line programme.

"The works affecting entry to and exit from Al Taawun Street will require only a short period, while engineers simultaneously redesign and reinstall the monument in its original location,” His Highness clarified.

He also revealed the development of the 'Al Noor Road', a new route that will extend from Al Orooba Street and lead into Dubai, scheduled to open by the end of this year.

The new projects aim to ease traffic movement on the road between the two Emirates and support a smooth journey for motorists in the country.
