The Hatta Mountain Reserve has been declared a Ramsar Site of International Importance.
According to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, it's the third site to be recognised by Ramsar for conserving threatened species.
The other two include the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, acknowledged in 2007, and then in 2018 the Jebel Ali Wetland Sanctuary was also added to the list.
Forty-three areas are now under protection, thanks to the UAE's environmental conservation efforts.
The announcement came on World Wetlands Day, which is recognised every year on February 2nd.
