Stargazers in the UAE will be able to witness the first of three Supermoons of the year on Wednesday night, with Dubai Astronomy Group hosting a special viewing session from 7 pm.

The session will be held at Al-Awir Second Park until 9 pm, with experts claiming the Supermoon will be in its full glory around 8.15pm.

The 'Hunter Supermoon' will grow larger by 14 per cent and brighter by 30 per cent to signal the start of the winter season. The change in shape and brightness comes from the Moon achieving "perigee", entering the closest point to earth in its orbit.

It's named 'Hunter Supermoon' to signal the time of the year when hunters are most active.

Meanwhile, the 'Beaver Moon', named after the beavers' season of building their shelters and preparing for winter, will light up the UAE skies on November 5, and the 'Cold Moon', which reflects the cold nights of the month, on December 4.
