Dubai Police save 14 sailors after ship crashes into rocks

Fourteen Indian sailors were rescued by Dubai Police after their ship hit rocks around Palm Deira.

A distress call was made just after 6am on Wednesday morning after the Khadeeja 7's engine failed during high winds, leading to the crash, which caused water to stream onboard.

A rescue mission was launched by Dubai Police and it took just 35 minutes to complete.

That's despite rescue boats being unable to reach the ship because of the high tide, meaning officers had to connect ropes from the wave barrier to the vessel and take each sailor one by one.

Medical checks were then carried out on the sailors and their belongings were also recovered from the ship.

The Consulate General of India, Dubai has thanked Dubai Police for their prompt and successful rescue operation.
