As many as 364 drug smuggling attempts were foiled by Dubai Customs during the first half of this year at Dubai Airports.

The items were confiscated between January and June, and were part of 472 seizures of various illegal goods in total.

Customs officials handled more than 10 million pieces of baggage from 5 million passengers arriving at Dubai Airports during the same period.

They have been using artificial intelligence and other high-end technology to streamline inspection and clearance procedures.

"Our department has a significant and vital role in easing the smooth flow of passengers, particularly amid the current battle against COVID-19," said Ibrahim Kamali, Director of Passenger Operations at Dubai Customs.

"Immediately upon the resumption of flights, we took all the necessary precautionary measures in line with global safe travel procedures followed across Dubai airports to ensure both frontline inspectors and passengers are safe," he added.
