All you need to know about travel restrictions easing in Dubai

Travel restrictions have eased and protocols have been announced in Dubai.

This comes after The Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management announced that Dubai residents will be able to return to the emirate from Monday, June 22, and are now permitted to travel abroad from Tuesday, June 23.

They also revealed that they will begin welcoming tourists from July 7.

The Supreme Committee clarified that travellers will bear full responsibility for their actions and must assess the COVID-19 situation of the country they are visiting.

Meanwhile, all those who test positive for the coronavirus will be obliged to complete a 14-day quarantine period, with travellers bearing both treatment and isolation costs.

The full list of guidelines issued by The Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management includes:

Procedures for returning Dubai residents

  • Residents are to pre-book flights through official websites of airlines operating at Dubai airports
  • Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs will organise the arrival of residents
  • Returning residents can fly on any of the airlines that have approved flights to Dubai Airports
  • Residents will sign a declaration stating their commitment to bear the costs of examination and treatment should they test positive for COVID-19
  • Residents must complete a Health Declaration Form before leaving their destination to ensure that they are clear of any coronavirus symptoms
  • All those arriving from abroad must register their details on the COVID-19 DXB mobile app
  • PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests are not required before leaving their destination of departure
  • Airlines will have the right to deny travellers if they display any symptoms of COVID-19
  • All travellers must undergo a PCR test upon arrival at Dubai Airports
  • Residents must stay home until their PCR test results are out
  • Positive COVID-19 cases will be obliged to a 14-day quarantine period
  • Home quarantine is permitted if the conditions of quarantine are met, according to the official guidelines set by the COVID-19 Command and Control Centre
  • Residents who test positive for COVID-19 and are home-sharing or live in high-density housing, will be required to be isolated at a facility. Their employer should provide the quarantine facility in accordance with COVID-19 Command and Control Centre guidelines or choose a quarantine facility provided by the government in return for bearing the costs involved
  • People must comply with all precautionary measures applied in Dubai (which include wearing masks, maintaining 2 metre social distance and washing hands regularly)
  • Strict compliance with the procedures set out for positive cases by the COVID-19 Command and Control Centre, including institutional quarantine, home quarantine or hospitalisation

Procedures for Dubai citizens and residents travelling abroad

  • Citizens and residents have the freedom to travel to several countries on any of the airlines that have approved flights to and from Dubai Airports
  • Passengers must adhere to the safety measures specified by the destination country upon arrival
  • All travellers must complete a Health Declaration Form before departing to ensure travellers are clear of any symptoms
  • Passengers need to comply with the official procedures established by the destination regarding testing and quarantine
  • Airlines have the right to deny travellers if they display any symptoms of COVID-19
  • Upon arriving back in Dubai, a PCR test must be taken at Dubai airports
  • Residents must stay home until their PCR test results come out
  • All those arriving from abroad after their trip will be required to download COVID-19 DXB mobile app
  • Positive COVID-19 cases will be obliged to a 14-day quarantine period
  • Home quarantine is permitted if the conditions of quarantine are met, according to the official guidelines set by the COVID-19 Command and Control Centre
  • Residents who test positive for COVID-19 and are home-sharing or live in high-density housing, will be required to be isolated at a facility. Their employer should provide the quarantine facility in accordance with COVID-19 Command and Control Centre guidelines or choose a quarantine facility provided by the government in return for bearing the costs involved

Procedures for tourists arriving in Dubai

  • Tourists must fulfill entry visa requirements to visit the UAE
  • They must have medical travel insurance before traveling, in the event that they do not have international coverage
  • All passengers must sign a declaration to bear all costs of quarantine and treatment and must complete a Health Declaration Form before their country of departure to ensure that they aren’t experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms
  • Tourists will also be required to register all their details in the COVID-19 DXB mobile app
  • Tourists must take a PCR test up to four days (prior to their date of travel to Dubai by a maximum of 96 hours
  • If tourists failed to take a PCR prior to travelling to Dubai, a PCR test will be carried out upon arrival at Dubai airports
  • The PCR test can be repeated for tourists who may have tested negative before leaving their country of departure but display COVID-19 symptoms after arriving in Dubai
  • Passengers must complete a Health Declaration Form before departing their country and arriving in Dubai
  • Airlines have the right to deny travelers should they display any symptoms of COVID-19
  • All arrival passengers will have their temperature checked using thermal screening devices
  • A 14-day quarantine will be imposed for all positive COVID-19 cases
  • All tourists must comply with the precautionary measures applied in Dubai (which include wearing masks, maintaining 2m social distance and washing hands regularly)
