The UN Human Rights Council has adopted a historic resolution on the human rights implications of Iranian attacks on the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.
Co-sponsored by over 100 states, the resolution condemns missile and drone strikes targeting civilians and critical infrastructure, including airports, ports, energy facilities, desalination plants and residential areas.
It also warns against any threats to international navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, highlighting the broader risks to regional security, global trade and energy supply.
The resolution reaffirms the affected states’ sovereignty and right to self-defence under the UN Charter, calls on Iran to cease all attacks and comply with international law, and demands prompt reparations for victims.
The move follows an urgent debate requested by GCC countries and Jordan, reflecting a clear international consensus against these acts.
