Saudi Arabia, Jordan condemn attack on UAE consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan

WAM

Saudi Arabia and Jordan have strongly condemned the recent attack targeting the UAE Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

In a statement by their foreign affairs offices, the countries described the repeated targeting of diplomatic premises as a clear violation of international laws and norms, including the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949.

The convention focused on the protection of civilians in occupied territories or under an adversary's power.

Jordan also emphasised the need to follow the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations on convoys and diplomats' missions.

Both countries also highlighted the importance of respecting the inviolability of diplomatic missions, expressing their full solidarity with the UAE.
