Hong Kong has reported its first coronavirus death, making it the second fatality outside China.

According to hospital authorities, the 39-year-old man had been suffering from an underlying illness and had visited China's Wuhan city in January.

It comes as hundreds of medical workers in Hong Kong entered a second day of strike after leader Carrie Lam announced that three border checkpoints with China will continue to remain open.

The first death outside of China was reported in the Philippines on Sunday.

The death toll in China has climbed to more than 420, with total infections hitting 20,438.

There were at least 151 cases in 23 other countries, with the US, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand and Vietnam denying entry to foreign nationals who have recently been in China.
