Heatwave kills 45 in India in 24 hours

A severe heatwave in the Indian state of Bihar has left at least 45 people dead and more than 100 hospitalised in the last 24 hours.

Aurangabad, Gaya and Nawada districts are the worst affected, with temperature recorded above 45 degree Celsius.

Authorities have issued an alert and advised people to take care while stepping outdoors. 

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a compensation of INR 4 lakh to the kin of the victims.
