El-Sisi, Trump to chair Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit

WAM

Egypt has announced that a peace summit will take place this Monday in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh.

The 'Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit' will be jointly chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, and will bring together leaders from over 20 nations.

According to Egypt’s Middle East News Agency (MENA), the event will discuss ways to end the war in Gaza and advance efforts toward peace, stability, and a new era of regional security in the Middle East.

The summit follows a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel last week. That agreement includes a halt to hostilities, an Israeli military withdrawal, the release of hostages and prisoners, and the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

The deal was finalised after four days of indirect talks in Sharm El Sheikh, involving mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey — under US oversight.
