Celebrated Indian actor Irrfan Khan has died after a brief hospitalisation. He was 53.
He was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Tuesday for colon infection.
The actor who battled a neuroendocrine tumour for several months, had returned to Mumbai some months ago following treatment in London.
"It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him," his spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Apart from an illustrious body of work in Bollywood, his work in Hollywood productions like Namesake, Slumdog Millionaire, Spiderman and Life Of Pi have been widely appreciated.
