Commuters in Dubai can now keep track of public bus schedules on Google Maps in real-time.
The new feature makes Dubai the first city in the Middle East to use open data in public transport.
The live updates will help people plan their trips and also keep them informed about early arrivals and late departures.
Previously, Google Maps only displayed fixed bus timetables without any updates.
"Such updates will enable them to better plan their journeys and minimise potential complaints from changes in timetables for unavoidable reasons,” said Khaled Al Awadi, Director of Transportation Systems at the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Public Transport Agency.
RTA has started to run real-time updates of bus timetables on Google Maps in collaboration with Google Inc. As such, Dubai has become the first city in the Middle East to use open data in public transport at par with 100 smart cities across the globe. pic.twitter.com/kclpRO0piN
