The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday condemned the attack on Barakah Nuclear Plant in the United Arab Emirates, adding that it was a flagrant violation of international law that put civilian lives, infrastructure, and the environment at grave risk.

In a statement, the Council said there must be an immediate and permanent cessation of all attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in the UAE, including attacks and threats of attack against peaceful nuclear facilities.

The statement added the attack was a challenge to the principles that safeguard international peace and security and those responsible, including those acting through proxy networks, must be held accountable.

The Security Council also reaffirmed its support for the UAE’s sovereignty and regional stability.

The UAE said last week that six drones had been launched against it from Iraq, including one that caused a fire at the nuclear power plant.
