The UAE has welcomed a United States statement supporting efforts to achieve peace in Sudan, including a call for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce and a commitment to a comprehensive political dialogue leading to civilian rule.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, praised the leadership of US President Donald Trump in helping prevent Sudan from sliding further into extremism, fragmentation and a worsening humanitarian crisis.
He reaffirmed the UAE's support for international efforts aimed at ending the conflict and underscored the country's commitment to working with partners to advance a political solution that brings an end to the suffering of the Sudanese people.
Sheikh Shakhboot also commended the efforts of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Dr. Massad Boulos, US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, in encouraging the parties to cease hostilities and move towards a political settlement.
The minister further called for the expansion of the existing UN arms embargo to cover all of Sudan, describing it as a necessary step to help halt hostilities and protect civilians.
