His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has welcomed remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio calling for an end to hostilities in Sudan at the start of the new year, to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
Sheikh Abdullah praised Secretary Rubio’s focus on humanitarian de-escalation and the urgent need to ease the worsening suffering of the Sudanese people.
He reaffirmed that an immediate ceasefire and the safe, unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance remain the highest priorities, stressing the need to protect civilians, address urgent humanitarian needs, and create conditions for a political process leading to a civilian transition that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability, and peace.
Sheikh Abdullah also underscored the UAE’s firm commitment to working within the Quad, led by the United States, noting that a ceasefire would strengthen international efforts to support a sustainable civilian political solution that places the interests of the Sudanese people above all else.
