The Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) between the UAE and the United States that was signed earlier this year has now come into force.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of US National Security Adviser John Bolton's visit to Abu Dhabi.
According to national news agency WAM, the pact will enhance military coordination between the two nations, in addition to boosting an already robust political and economic partnership.
A joint statement by the countries added that the DCA will foster closer collaboration on defence and security matters and support efforts by both sides to maintain security in the Gulf region.
