Representatives from the UAE and UN have looked into ways to expedite access to clean water and sanitation during a meeting ahead of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference.

The conference, which the UAE will co-host for the first time alongside Senegal, is set to be held in Abu Dhabi from December 8 - 10.

Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, reaffirmed UAE’s commitment to working closely with the UN and international partners to support the success of the conference, noting that they are open to partnerships in water-related investments and initiatives that can support progress.

It will focus on progressing the UN's sixth sustainable development goal in providing access to clean water and sanitation for all.

It is expected to serve as an important global platform to accelerate implementation, mobilise partnerships and finance, and elevate the water issue within the UN's agenda.
