The UAE is likely to remain on the UK's travel 'red list' despite its extensive vaccination rollout and rapid testing system.

This was indicated by the country’s transport secretary Grant Shapps, who told an online event that it’s because Dubai and Abu Dhabi are categorised as “key hubs”.

This makes it tougher for UK health authorities to determine the travellers’ origins, he explained.

The UAE is among 40 countries that have been placed on the red list as per the UK government website.

The UK is expected to lift its ban on non-essential international travel from May 17.
