UAE landmarks have been lit up in the colours of the Libyan flag in a show of support for those affected by Storm Daniel.

Dubai's Burj Khalifa and Adnoc’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi displayed messages of solidarity as the death toll rose to 5,300.

In a post on social media, the UAE Media Office wrote: "To the brotherly people of Libya. You have our sincere condolences. Our hearts and prayers are with you."

Around 10,000 people are believed to be missing after the flood, caused by a gigantic Mediterranean storm, wiped out a quarter of the eastern coastal city of Derna.

Two planes carrying aid from the UAE arrived in Libya on Wednesday.
