UAE has proactive approach in dealing with COVID-19: NCEMA official

WAM

The UAE government has effective strategies in place to curb the spread of COVID-19 but residents must also play their part.

That's the message from the Director-General of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) who said the country's levels of readiness and preparations have been raised since early January.

Obaid Al Hassan Al Shamsi said the recent surge in cases was expected, and it was mainly due to some people not complying with the precautionary measures.

He added that these regulations are imposed by the government in order to protect the community and not to restrict their freedom.

Al Shamsi also said the authorities would consider reintroducing the national sterilisation programme if there was a significant outbreak.
