UAE expresses solidarity with France over wildfires

ALAIN JOCARD / AFP

The UAE has expressed its solidarity with France as devastating wildfires continue to sweep across the country's southwest, forcing the evacuation of around 220,000 people and threatening the outskirts of Bordeaux.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the UAE's support for the French government and people as they confront the fires, while wishing everyone affected safety.

The blazes, fuelled by prolonged drought and extreme heat, have burned across the Gironde region, with thousands of firefighters battling to stop the flames from reaching more populated areas.
