The UAE Fatwa Council has announced that Eid Al Adha will begin on Wednesday, May 27, after confirming the sighting of the Dhu al-Hijjah crescent moon on Sunday evening.

The council said Monday, May 18, marks the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar year 1447 AH.

The moon sighting was carried out using a network of approved observatories across the UAE, in cooperation with astronomy and space science centres including the International Astronomy Center, Dubai’s “Sighter of Dubai” initiative and Sharjah’s astronomy observatory.

The council said the process combined traditional Islamic sighting methods with modern astronomical technology to ensure accuracy.

Eid Al Adha, one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar, marks the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
