UAE Cabinet approves 'new generation' UAE passports, ID cards

The UAE Cabinet has approved a fresh design for Emirati passports as well as National Identity Cards, with additional security features.

This came during a cabinet meeting on Sunday, which was chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed said the existing passports and ID cards will be gradually replaced.

During the meeting, the cabinet also approved the formation of a national media team, a cybersecurity council as well as a new environmental policy aimed at improving air quality and ensuring proper waste management.

Sheikh Mohammed said the new media team will include experienced and influential media figures.

In another key cabinet decision, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology has been appointed as the UAE's special envoy in the field of climate change. He will represent the country in all global events and forums related to climate change.
