UAE authorities have extradited accused British financier Sanjay Shah to Denmark, where he is convicted of orchestrating a $1.7 billion tax fraud.

His extradition was decided by Dubai's Court of Cassation and approved by the Minister of Justice, according to the national news agency WAM. And, in line with the extradition treaty signed between UAE and Denmark in March 2022.

In December 2022, the Court of Cassation began the extradition process of Shah after his arrest in Dubai.

He is suspected of running a scheme that involved submitting applications to the Danish Treasury on behalf of investors and companies from around the world for dividend tax refunds.

The extradition confirms the UAE’s determination to collaborate with international partners to tackle financial crime.
