The UAE has become a global role model in the fight to eradicate polio, the UAE Minister of Health and Prevention, Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, has said.
The minister attributed its success to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In a statement to mark World Polio Day, which is commemorated on October 24, Al Owais said the World Health Organisation acknowledged the UAE's pivotal role in efforts to wipe out polio and ensure a brighter, healthier future for children worldwide.
He underscored the UAE's relentless efforts and initiatives align with the government's commitment to sustainable development and enhancing the well-being of upcoming generations.
Al Owais added that the UAE stands firmly behind the WHO's plan to eradicate the disease by 2030.
