His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued the decision in recognition of Al Marri's "leadership and contributions to making Dubai one of the safest cities in the world".

Al Marri, who previously held the rank of major general, expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed for his trust and continuous support.

The Dubai Police officers, he said, are proud to have the privilege of serving the nation.

The UAE continues to be a model for public safety and effective law enforcement both of which have contributed to the country’s progress, he added.
