A new resolution that aims to ensure the safety of autonomous vehicles has been introduced in Dubai.
Issued by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, it regulates the testing of the vehicles.
The resolution also tasks the Roads and Transport Authority with specifying the standards that need to be met and reviewing the technical aspects related to safety.
It comes as efforts continue towards the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy, which aims to transform 25 per cent of the total transportation in the emirate to autonomous by 2030.
Authorities predict that this will generate bring AED 22 billion annually across a number of sectors, by reducing transportation costs, carbon emissions and accidents, and increasing productivity by saving time that's currently wasted in conventional cars.
