Dubai's bus-on-demand service is proving to be a big hit with commuters.

According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), 603,052 riders have used the service since its launch in February 2020, clocking a satisfaction rate of 86 per cent.

As many as 428,377 commuters hopped on board in 2021, compared to 174,675 in 2020.

The 10-seater minibuses currently serve Al Barsha, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City, with flexible routes and timetables.

The service can be booked through the 'Dubai Bus on Demand' smart application.

"It passes across several metro and tram stations and contributes to the integration of public transport services with the first and last mile, improves accessibility and reduces the waiting time of commuters," said Adil Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the RTA's Public Transport Agency.

"The underlying strategy of the initiative is to serve the low-demand areas and reduce operational costs," he added.
