New Year's Eve in Dubai: All you need to know

As Dubai gears up for the New Year's Eve celebrations, authorities have put together an extensive plan to ensure the festivities run smoothly.

More than 3,000 Dubai police officers and hundreds of patrols will be deployed across the city, as the emirate readies to welcome more than 1.6 million spectators.

Some roads around Downtown Dubai will be closed as early as 4:00 pm on Tuesday until 5:00 am on Wednesday.

Emaar put out a video detailing the road closures in the area, ahead of the spectacular Burj Khalifa fireworks.

They added that this year's show will incorporate lights, laser and fireworks, and start from 11:57 pm.

Twenty-four other locations, including Global Village, Atlantis and Burj Al Arab, have also planned stunning fireworks shows to ring in the new year.

Authorities have urged people to use public transport services to avoid delays, with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announcing extended schedules for the Dubai Metro, Tram and buses.

Dubai Metro’s Red Line will operate from 5:00 am on Tuesday until Wednesday midnight, Dubai Metro’s Green line will start at 5:30 am and also run until Wednesday midnight.

Parking bays, except the multi-level terminals, will be free on the first day of 2020.

Meanwhile, Dubai Police have also shared the exact timings and locations for road closures around the Downtown Dubai area.

While Burj Khalifa Street will be closed from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sheikh Zayed Road will be inaccessible until 11:45 pm.
