NCM clarifies El Nino reports, reassures public on UAE weather

The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has reassured the public that there is no cause for concern over social media reports warning of severe impacts from the El Nino climate phenomenon, including claims of widespread flooding or unusual rainfall.

The Centre says El Nino is a natural climate pattern centred in the Pacific Ocean. While it can bring drought to some parts of the world, other regions can experience above-average rainfall.

For the UAE, El Nino is generally associated with the possibility of beneficial rainfall.

However, the Centre says heavy rain could occur if suitable weather conditions develop over the country.

The National Centre of Meteorology says it is monitoring regional and global weather conditions around the clock.

Any significant weather event will be announced in advance through its official channels, along with the necessary forecasts and warnings.

The Centre has also urged the public and media to verify information and avoid spreading rumours, stressing the importance of relying on official sources for accurate weather updates.
