WATCH: What you should do if you get an emergency alert while driving

Authorities in the UAE have released a series of videos that guide residents on the safety protocols to follow when receiving emergency alerts, especially while driving or visiting a mall.

In a social media video post, the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre - Abu Dhabi (ADCMC) urges drivers to slow down as soon as they receive an alert, and head to a safe spot in a nearby building.

If access to a building isn't easy, then they must park away from crowded areas, billboards, fuel stations and tall buildings with glass facades.

Drivers must stay in the car, with the windows rolled up and doors closed, and their body lowered and nose and mouth covered.

They must wait until they get an all-clear message before heading out.

If you are in a mall, residents must follow the site's security and safety instructions.

They must avoid the elevators and use the stairs to move to safe location away from glass walls and windows.

The authority also reminded the public against sharing unverified information on social media, and posting posting videos or images that may cause concern or spread rumours.

The safety awareness campaign falls under the hashtag "Our Community Is Prepared".
