UAE residents intervene to stop massive balloon release

More than 15,000 balloons were stopped from being released in Ras Al Khaimah - thanks to environmentally-conscious residents.

The balloons were due to form part of an event until local community members contacted marine conservation organisation Azraq.

They, in turn, informed the event organisers and local authorities about the dangers that balloons pose to marine life and wildlife.

Azraq's Managing Director, Natalie Banks, told ARN News that many people aren't aware of the damage balloons can do.
