Dubai to have two 'model' bus stations by year-end

WAM

Construction work on the new public bus stations in Dubai's Oud Metha and Satwa are due for completion later this year.

According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), around 77 per cent of the work on the buildings has been finished.

The terminals, located in two densely populated districts, will have a combined capacity of up to 25,000 passengers per day.

"The role of the new stations goes beyond the prevailing concept of commuting passengers to encompass the offering of integrated services for passengers such as retail outlets, service points, offices and others," said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA.

The RTA is also constructing another 17 bus stations to serve Expo 2020 Dubai visitors - they include seven permanent stations at Al Jafiliya, Al Ghubaiba, Etisalat Station at Al Qusais, Union Station at Deira, Business Bay 2, Al Baraha, and Ibn Battuta; while four temporary stations will be constructed at Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City, Business Bay 1 and Jumeirah Palm.

More than 1,500 bus shelters are also being planned over the next 3-4 years in partnership with the private sector.
