Dubai Police cracks down on reckless drivers for dangerous rain stunts

Dubai Police

A number of drivers in Dubai are facing legal action for reckless driving stunts during the recent rains.

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said the vehicles were impounded and drivers referred to higher authorities for legal action.

A video posted on Dubai Police's social media handles showed the drivers drifting and swerving suddenly in areas like Al Ruwayyah and Lahbab.

Such actions, especially during rainy conditions, turn risker, endangering the life of the drivers and those of other road users, Brigadier bin Suwaidan added.

The official didn't divulge how many drivers were detained, but confirmed that Dubai Police has intensified patrols to catch traffic violators.

Violators will have to pay up to AED 50,000 to release impounded vehicles.

The public has been encouraged to report violators through the Police Eye app or by calling 901.
