Dubai Mallathon passes 100,000 participants in second edition

WAM

More than 100,000 people have taken part in the second edition of Dubai Mallathon, collectively recording over 220 million steps since the community fitness initiative began in June.

The programme transforms indoor spaces across Dubai into air-conditioned walking and running tracks, allowing residents and visitors to remain active during the summer months.

This year's edition began on June 15 and has been expanded to run for three months until September 15, following the success of the inaugural event last year.

Gate Avenue at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) joined the programme on August 1, while Ibn Battuta Mall was added on August 17, expanding the number of locations available to participants.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has also become the first non-mall venue to host Dubai Mallathon activities, with walking events taking place at Terminal 3 every Friday throughout August. The final DXB session on August 28 will mark Emirati Women's Day.

The initiative was launched under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

Dubai Mallathon is free to participate in, with the main mall programme operating between 6:00 am and 10:00 am each day.

Last year's inaugural edition attracted more than 40,000 participants, who recorded over 120 million steps, and earned a Guinness World Records title after 1,392 people took part in a single mall running event at Dubai Hills Mall.
