Dubai Customs foils attempt to export over 70 million illicit cigarettes

@DubaiCustoms/X

Dubai Customs has completed a major international seizure by foiling an attempt to export over 70 million illicit cigarettes that were en route to a European country.

The operation was carried out after inspection teams detected 9 shipments across 3 air cargo facilities and linked them to a single importer through risk indicator analysis and shipment data review.

The teams uncovered 360,500 cartons of cigarettes, containing nearly seven tonnes of tobacco, concealed inside shipments declared as “clothing”.

Dubai Customs has carried out over 182 seizures at air cargo centres over the past three months, including 21 customs seizures and 161 security-related seizures.
