The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is warning consumers to watch out for fake emails and messages asking them to pay their bills or answer some questions to win prizes.

It's reminding people not to respond to such fraudulent messages being circulated under the government department's name.

Customers are advised to always double-check the domain name of the sender's email address and to make their payments only through official channels.

The utility provider has also called on residents to refer to its website and verified social media accounts or contact the customer care centre for accurate information.
