Construction work on the "Billion Meals Dates Factory" project has officially started, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Based in the Margham area of Dubai, it is anticipated to be the largest endowment project of its kind globally for the production and packaging of dates for humanitarian purposes upon completion in 2027, with a total capacity of up to 150 million food units annually.
The inauguration of the construction works for the factory on Thursday was attended by Saeed Al Attar, CEO of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, and businessman Mirwais Azizi, Chairman of Azizi Developments.
The vision of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation meets the private sector’s contribution, represented by businessman Azizi’s contribution of AED 200 million in construction costs, and the operational expertise of Al Baraka Dates Company.
It is also believed to support the UN's Sustainable Development Goals 2030, which includes combating hunger, by transforming charitable work into a professional production system that ensures the efficient and continuous flow of aid, shaping the future of global food security.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, set up in 2015, encompasses more than 30 initiatives and institutions that implement hundreds of projects, programs and campaigns, within five main areas of work: humanitarian and relief aid, health care and disease control, spreading education and knowledge, future innovation and leadership, and community empowerment.
