The 'Arab Reading Challenge' has received a significant boost with the Court of the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan pledging to donate one million books. The project was announced last month to encourage reading habits in children across the region. It’s hoping to secure the commitment of over a million students to read at least 50 books each, this academic year. Incentives and awards totaling about AED 11 million are being offered to participating schools, pupils and their families. The challenge is scheduled run across five stages, until March 2016.
