Abu Dhabi to launch biobank to support advanced medical research

Abu Dhabi will soon launch a biobank of human stem cells and tissues to support research into personalised medicine.

This initiative is part of efforts to develop advanced treatment programmes for more than 80 diseases, including blood disorders, cancer, bone marrow diseases, and immune system disorders.

The plan was endorsed during a meeting of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, Sheikh Khaled reviewed a number of projects aimed at enhancing government services. He was also briefed on Q2 performance reports from Abu Dhabi Government departments on services and initiatives to benefit the community.

His Highness highlighted the importance of consolidating efforts to unify the government services ecosystem, and of adopting a coordinated approach and championing an innovative mindset.
