A court in Abu Dhabi has jailed two persons for fabricating a story about the death of five people from the same family due to COVID-19.

A TV channel correspondent and a guest who appeared on his show are the two defendants.

The Federal Court of Appeal has handed a two-year jail term to the correspondent, while the other person will be deported after serving a two-year sentence.

The story, which was broadcast on a local TV channel in August was found to be a fabricated one during investigations carried out by the Public Prosecution.
