USA and China to resume trade talks

BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI / AFP

There's been a small breakthrough in the trade war between the USA and China.

The two countries have agreed to resume trade negotiations, a move which is expected to ease a row that has led to a global economic slowdown.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump reached the conclusion after holding talks on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Japan.

Trump, who had earlier threatened to impose more tariffs on Chinese imports, said the meetings with his Chinese counterpart had been "excellent".
