UAE trade deal with DR Congo takes effect

WAM

The UAE’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the Democratic Republic of Congo has officially come into force, opening up new opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries.

The agreement removes tariffs on most goods, simplifies customs procedures and reduces trade barriers, making it easier for businesses in both markets to operate.

It is also expected to boost investment in key sectors, including logistics, energy and manufacturing, while strengthening the UAE’s access to markets across Central and Eastern Africa.

The deal builds on growing economic ties between the two countries. Non-oil trade reached $3.5 billion in 2025, marking a 38.5 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is a major global producer of minerals, including cobalt and copper, which are essential to electronics and clean energy technologies.

UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi says the agreement will give UAE businesses greater access to the African market, while creating opportunities for deeper private-sector partnerships and investment.

The UAE has now concluded Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements with 40 countries, with 20 of those agreements currently in force.
