Sharjah-Oman logistics corridor handles AED 1.7 billion in cargo

A logistics corridor linking Sharjah and Oman handled around AED 1.7 billion worth of cargo during its first three months of operation.

The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority said more than 34,000 truck movements were recorded and over 32,000 customs declarations processed during the period.

The corridor opened on May 17 and connects ports and logistics hubs through the Khatmat Malaha Border Crossing in Kalba and the Al Madam Border Crossing, providing routes into Oman.

Cargo value increased by more than 66 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year, according to the authority, while more than 200 new importer codes were registered.

Goods transported through the corridor have included vehicles and equipment, food and agricultural products, building materials and spare parts.

The network connects Sharjah and other UAE ports with the Omani ports of Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, with routes also serving markets including Saudi Arabia and countries in Africa and Asia.

The authority said it plans to expand the number of companies and shipping operators using the corridor and introduce additional services and routes.
