Masdar expands clean energy partnership in Azerbaijan

WAM

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company – Masdar, has signed an agreement with Azerbaijan Green Energy Company to explore the development of new renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan.

The pact was signed in Baku in the presence of Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser of the UAE.

The partnership includes plans to expand Masdar’s 230-megawatt (MW) Garadagh Solar PV by a minimum of 350MW, along with the addition of a battery energy storage system of up to 200 MWh.

A 100MW round-the-clock renewable energy project is also being planned.

Masdar and SOCAR Green, a wholly owned subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s state oil company, also announced financial close on the 315MW Neftchala solar project, which is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power around 140,000 homes while reducing carbon emissions.

Masdar has established a strong track record in Azerbaijan since entering the market with the Garadagh project, inaugurated in 2023.
