Dubai welcomed 4.88 million visitors between January and October 2021, with international visitation during October reaching over one million.

The figures were revealed by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) during the second bi-annual City Briefing of 2021.

The city also reported an uptick in hotel room sales, from seven million room nights in 2019, compared to the 9.4 million room nights sold between January and October of 2021.

Expo 2020 Dubai was credited with playing a major role in providing the sector with a unique platform to engage with the global community.

The authority also reported a gender-balanced tourist spread with 52 per cent male visitors and 48 per cent female visitors.

Following this success, the DET aims to "further catalyse Expo 2020 visitor numbers, strengthen relationships with the travel trade and explore new channels to source visitors."

This growth is expected to be fuelled by government initiatives involving long term visas like the Golden Visa and the Property Investor Visa, as well as the proactive health measures against the evolving pandemic.
