ADNOC approves $6.2bn investment to expand UAE gas production

WAM

ADNOC has approved a $6.2 billion (AED22.6 billion) investment to develop the Umm Shaif Gas Cap project, as it steps up plans to expand the UAE's natural gas production and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

The project, being developed with international partners TotalEnergies, Eni and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), is expected to produce more than 600 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day by 2030. That's equivalent to almost 10 per cent of the UAE's current daily gas consumption.

ADNOC said the investment will strengthen the UAE's energy security while helping meet growing global demand for natural gas, including from energy-intensive industries and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The decision follows the recent award of the Bab Gas Cap concession, another major gas development expected to add around 1.5 billion standard cubic feet per day of production.

The Umm Shaif project includes $5.1 billion worth of engineering and construction contracts for offshore infrastructure, alongside a $365 million drilling programme to be carried out by ADNOC Drilling using three existing rigs.
