Abu Dhabi partners with Boehringer Ingelheim to advance precision medicine

WAM

The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi has signed a strategic partnership with global biopharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim to accelerate research into precision medicine using the emirate's advanced genomics capabilities.

The agreement was signed during the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego and will focus on improving understanding of how genetics influence disease development and patients' responses to treatment.

The collaboration will support research across a range of conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, rare diseases, neurological disorders, metabolic and fibrotic diseases, ophthalmology and immune-related illnesses.

Officials said the partnership will leverage Abu Dhabi's genomics and biobank ecosystem to generate scientific insights that could help develop more personalised and effective healthcare.

Dr Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Sciences Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said the collaboration reflects the emirate's commitment to advancing population health research and strengthening personalised medicine.

Boehringer Ingelheim said the partnership will help address unmet medical needs by combining advanced research, data and innovation to improve patient outcomes and support the future of healthcare in the UAE and the wider region.
