The UAE has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation in sports at the 2026 BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting in Visakhapatnam, India.
Led by Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Sports, the UAE delegation discussed opportunities to exchange expertise and best practices in areas including sports technology, innovation, athlete development and traditional sports.
Participants also agreed in principle to establish a BRICS Sports Technology Working Group to support knowledge sharing, research and joint initiatives in sports technology and innovation.
The UAE delegation emphasised the country’s proactive efforts to navigate future transformations in the sports sector through major initiatives and events, including the 'World Sports Summit' in Dubai and the 'Games of the Future' event in Abu Dhabi.
It also expressed support for the BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Sports Demonstration Games, set to take place in Ahmedabad in October.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of a joint statement reaffirming cooperation among BRICS countries in sports, including knowledge exchange, capacity building and technical collaboration.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Sheikh Suhail held bilateral talks with officials from India, Russia and other participating countries to explore new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in sports technology, innovation and talent development.
